Two new Liberal Drinks are planned for this week: in Andover (Friday) and Reading (Sunday).
Coming up on this website: a brief guide to holding your own event.
Joe Otten has set up a new Liberal Drinks in Sheffield. It will be taking place on Tuesday 18 July from 8pm at the Rising Sun, 471 Fulwood Rd, Sheffield, S10 3QA.

Last night’s Liberal Drinks was another success. In addition to the usual ragtag of regulars, a warm welcome to Mark, Dominic, Ric, Alex and Ed Davey MP as well as a belated welcome to Simon and Oliver who first came last month.
As you will have noticed, the logo competition has been decided, and the winner, Helen Jardine-Brown came along. Unfortunately, I forgot to buy Helen her reward, but I’m sure I’ll get another chance.
As well as the usual gossip, the conversation variously rambled onto a discussion on the recent announcements on the Lib Dems’ tax proposals, campaign strategy and internet campaigning and the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill.
The next London Liberal Drinks will be taking place on Wednesday 19 July. Same time (7.30pm), same place (The Silver Cross).
A warm welcome to Hackney Lib Dems who have added their regular Pub Night to Liberal Drinks.
If your local party runs a similar event, it is simplicity itself to get it listed here. Simply add the information onto Flock Together in the normal way and add “Liberal Drinks” to the list of organisations you want to associate it with. Your event will then automatically be added to this site, including our map.
Okay, I’ve been fiddling around on photoshop all evening and I’m not getting anywhere. Got to go on holiday tomorrow morning so no more time.
What this website needs is a logo. The obvious logo would be a beer label, although if anyone has any other bright ideas, by all means submit it.
Anyone creative out there want to have a go? Send your entry to semajmaharg@gmail.com. Ideally, send your entry in .psd format and at least 1000 xc 1000 pixels for ease of monkeying-around with, but by all means send it in a variety of formats. The closing date will be 10 June. The winner will get a pint.
Ta!
NB As part of the conditions of entry, you will give permission for your design to be used to promote Liberal Drinks.
This is the website for Liberal Drinks, a new initiative designed to encourage Lib Dem and liberal-minded people to, erm, meet up in a pub. Shouldn’t be too difficult, should it?
In fact, we’ve already had a few of these. A couple of years ago, there was an attempt to organise events using meetup.com (as it happens, at this point personally I’d never heard of Drinking Liberally, but there is clearly a lot we can learn from our US pardners). However, despite some limited success, that plan was kibboshed due to meetup’s decision to start charging people for the privilege (bad meetup!).
Clever chappy Martin Tod however has now built flocktogether. It does a lot more than just pubmeets and has the potential to be a very powerful tool. Liberal Drinks is just one practical application among many.
It’s extremely easy for Lib Dem members to organise a Drinks - pick a date and a pub, register on flocktogether, and tell everyone you know about it. You don’t need anyone’s permission to do this - go right ahead! In the meantime, here at Liberal Drinks, we will do our best to get our website linked around the internet as widely as possible, thus maximising the amount of extra publicity your event will get.
There’s more to come, including buttons for you to add to your websites. Watch this space.
